"With the release of NetAdvantage for Visual Studio 2005 we are providing our customers with Visual Studio 2005 specific features, control behaviors, and framework compatibility which will increase development team productivity, application functionality, and ease migration to the .NET Framework 2.0." said Steve Dadoly, Infragistics Director of Engineering. "I think our customers will really enjoy the improved integration and design time experience which NetAdvantage for Visual Studio 2005 provides. Being able to use the NetAdvantage editors and calculation engine from within the Visual Studio in-box grid provides an extra level of UI layer richness not provided with Visual Studio 2005. And finally, our continued support for Visual Studio 2002, 2003 and the easy upgrade path to Visual Studio 2005 is a clear win for our current customers looking to move their existing NetAdvantage applications to Visual Studio 2005 and the .NET Framework 2.0."
Extensibility features in NetAdvantage 2005 Volume 3 for Visual Studio 2005 include:
Perform calculations with in-box controls – Apply Excel-style calculation to any in-box control that accepts input including the Microsoft Windows Forms grid and the Microsoft ASP.NET
NetAdvantage WinEditors in Micrsoft Windows Forms Grid – NetAdvantage editors can now extend the columns in the Microsoft Windows Forms grid to give more powerful data input capabilities.
The NetAdvantage Editors that are available for use in the Microsoft Windows Forms grid include:
XHTML Compliance - The default doc type for Web Forms in Visual Studio 2005 is XHTML – we have ensured that the Infragistics tools are compliant with XHTML standards – empowering you to use either the classic HTML standard or the emerging XHTML doc type.
Simplified Deployment of ASP.NET
Interactive Design Surface - Interact directly with the Infragistics tools at design time without having to use the property window. Our active design surface creates natural interactivity by allowing you to perform actions such as changing the tab with a single click. This increases productivity by eliminating the need to leave the Visual Studio designer window.
Features that integrate directly into Visual Studio 2005 include:
New DataBinding Support – All data-aware controls in the NetAdvantage toolset provide support for the new Data Binding controls in Visual Studio 2005 - Including the new object data source.
Datasource Window Integration for Windows Forms Application – Provides support for use of the NetAdvantage controls inside the DataSource Window. Relationships can be easily assigned between a data column and an editor, or a datatable and a databindable control. Thereafter, when a field or table is dropped onto a form, Visual Studio will create an instance of the assigned editor or databindable control.
Base and Snap Lines for Windows Forms – built in support for Base Line and Snap Lines – allowing greater ease in aligning controls.
ImageList Keys for Windows Forms Applications – Allow programmers to assign a string name to an item in an ImageList. The appearance object has been altered to support this functionality, and now the image property of an appearance can be set to the key of an image in an associated ImageList. ASP.NET
Theming Support – Skin NetAdvantage and in-box controls using a common theme.
Managed Theming APIs for Windows Forms – When Infragistics Windows Forms controls are used in an environment where the code does not have full permissions/unmanaged code rights, the controls can now be rendered with the current XP theme.
Smart Tags Support – Smart Tags provide developers with an improved design time experience by enabling quick access to the most commonly used settings without having to leave the Visual Studio designer surface.
Today, Infragistics NetAdvantage 2005 Volume 3 for Visual Studio 2005 is the single most comprehensive presentation layer development toolset on the market. Comprised of best-of-breed elements including: grids, scheduling, charting, navigation, toolbars, tabs, explorer bars, menus, listbars, trees, dock manager, UI and editing elements, NetAdvantage is ideal for designing commercial class applications for all Microsoft development environments – Windows Forms, ASP.NET
and Tablet PC. Infragistics NetAdvantage 2005 Volume 3 for Visual Studio 2005 now natively works with Visual Studio 2005, 2003, and 2002.
NetAdvantage 2005 is built on a true framework, not just a collection of disparate controls. Infragistics labored hard before writing a line of code to devise a mature architecture based on shared assemblies and common object models. This creates what we refer to as leveraged learning, meaning the effort to learn the first of our controls lets you learn the rest much easier. It also makes it easier to create standardized interfaces for your applications and even create your own elements and inherit from our Presentation Layer Framework™.
