Red Gate upgrades tools for SQL Server 2005

Red Gate upgrades full line of tools for SQL Server 2005 compatibility

New tools ease migration to SQL Server 2005 for developers, DBAs;

extend “ingeniously simple” approach to new Microsoft platform

CAMBRIDGE, U.K., January 26, 2006 – Red Gate Software announced today that it has upgraded its complete set of database comparison and packaging tools to provide full compatibility with SQL Server 2005.  The new software eases migration to SQL Server 2005 and enables users to take full advantage of Microsoft’s new platform.

With version 4, Red Gate has completely re-engineered SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare for SQL Server 2005, while retaining the same simple interface that makes it easy for developers and DBAs to carry out their everyday tasks.  SQL Compare and Data Compare are used by more than 150,000 professionals to compare and synchronize database structures, content and data.

SQL Toolkit 4, Red Gate’s software for creating customized, automated applications for comparing and synchronizing databases, and SQL Packager 4, the award-winning program for packaging and deploying new or updated databases, are now also fully compatible with SQL Server 2005.

“Our tools for SQL Server 2000 revolutionized the way developers and DBAs work, giving them ease of mind and the gift of time,” says Simon Galbraith, Red Gate’s marketing director.  “Now, we’re doing the same thing for SQL Server 2005, except that the same simple interface hides a lot more under the hood; it’s like going from a 1.4-liter engine to a 5-liter engine.”

Red Gate’s new tools enable users to easily achieve the following important tasks:

  • migrating SQL Server 2000 schemas upstream to SQL Server 2005
  • comparing and synchronizing with embedded CLR objects
  • tracking version changes for all new database objects
  • comparing new XML datatypes and examining XML fields
  • packaging SQL Server 2005 databases as compressed .exe files
  • exploiting new datatypes with Red Gate’s command-line toolkit to automate all tasks.

“We are currently working on a SQL Server 2005 project and SQL Compare 4 has allowed us to keep our schemas, partitions and DDL triggers in line,” says Aaron Bertrand, senior data architect for Bluestreak Inc.  “The new version has been especially useful for comparing synonyms, which we are using to make our different environments transparent to developers.  Not only does SQL Compare 4 make my job easier, it’s benefits are trickling down to other members of my team as well.”

Red Gate’s new SQL Server 2005 tools can be purchased separately or as part of bundled packages offered at a discount of 40 percent or more over the cost of the individual tools.  SQL Bundle 4 includes SQL Compare 4, SQL Data Compare 4, and DTS Package Compare 2, which enables fast comparisons of Data Transformation Services packages.  SQL Bundle Developer Edition 4 includes SQL Bundle 4, plus SQL Packager 4 and SQL Toolkit 4.

Red Gate Software’s new SQL comparison and packaging tools are available in English, Japanese and German languages.  Visit the Red Gate web site (www.red-gate.com) for complete information on new features and to download free, fully functional, 14-day trial versions of the new SQL Server 2005 tools.

Red-Gate makes a great tool - but ours is also very useful. Please take a look at the way we display schema differences - in a side by side color coded schema view. This allows you to get an immediate overview and then drill down for precise details. We also have a 100% free edition.

Red-Gate is great for the script generation (hey - we're working on it) - but no one beats us in terms of schema comparison functionality. You can download the tool at http://www.sqleffects.com.
