Slashdot Acknowledges Vista More Secure Than Linux

Wow, even Slashdot, anti-Microsoft capital of the Web, acknowledges that six months after its release, Vista Security is still besting Linux.  From the site:

"Great report on security vulnerabilities for MS/Linux/OS X. This is a revised version of the one Jeff Jones did back on March 21: Windows Vista — 90 Day Vulnerability Report. This time he did what the Linux community had asked. Everyone complained that he did the report based on a full Linux distro including optional components, not on just a base OS install. So this time he did both; Vista still came out on top. I was shocked that Apple was even on the list as I believed all those Mac commercials!"

Full story.

Oddly the moderator posted the story as "maybe-because-nobody's-using-it" which is rather ironic since Linux ranks third in total user base behind Windows and Macs (and as a result, far fewer "black hats" target if they're seeking maximum reach for their exploits).  According to W3Schools' stats for May, Linux does have 0.2% more user base than Vista, but Vista's share has increased 2.5% since January while Linux has dropped 0.3%.

Your reading comprehension is lacking.  Said report was thoroughly debunked.  Furthermore, your usage numbers at W3Schools are off; they were 3.4% Linux and 2.8% Vista for May 2007 (and were down .2% and up 2.2%, respectively).

It's somewhat telling that Vista proponents have to cook the statistics to make the situation look less bad than it is.

@Kirk: Interesting - when I posted this W3Schools didn't have any stats yet for June, and their May stats were as I reported them.  You're correct, they've changed (I guess next time I could take a screenshot, but the numbers remain close enough to make my point, and in June W3S is *currently* reporting 3.0% Vista and 3.4% Linux).

Do you have some link to the "debunking" of said report to offer?

I've been running Vista since November.  I have plenty of complaints about it.  What caught my eye was merely that a notoriously anti-Microsoft site would consider and discuss a report that showed any Microsoft product beating out the SD crowd favorite, Linux.  It would surprise me not at all of "said report was thoroughly debunked" but I'd like to see such come from a source other than a few dozen SD anonymous cowards...
