Move CCTray Window from Second Monitor when Disconnected

On one of my machines, I have CCTray installed and while the box used to have 2 monitors attached to it, at the moment it has just one.  And of course, CCTray's output was going to the (now not there) second monitor.  No problem - as a veteran multi-monitor user, I knew you could just right-click on the application in the task bar and select Move, and then use the arrows keys (or the mouse once it changes to a 4-arrows icon) to bring the window back to the correct display.  Sadly - CCTray is a tray application through and through, and does not display in the task bar.  I knew there was a way to still accomplish the same thing, and a bit of searching let me to this post which includes how to use the keyboard only to move a window (even without a task bar item) from off the screen back to where it belongs.

The important thing to know is that after you Alt-Tab to the application (CCTray does show up in Alt-Tab), you need to hit Ctrl-Space to bring up the window dialog, from which you can select Move (the option should appear on your screen so you could use your mouse, or just hit M).  Then you just use the arrow keys as with the other technique and you're set.  Just remember: Ctrl-Space.  That's the trick.

# re: Move CCTray Window from Second Monitor when Disconnected

This happens to me with several apps when I remote desktop into my dual-monitor desktop with my laptop...not all of my apps on my second desktop monitor are on-screen anymore. If you close the app and relaunch, it will ensure that it is onscreen when launching (even if it remembers a window location on monitor 2).

@Cy - Thanks, that's a good tip.  Unfortunately, CCTray doesn't do that (it always goes back to the nonexisting offscreen location when relaunched).  So I had to resort to the keyboard shortcut to access the Move command.

Cy,

I also RDC to my dual-monitor desktop at home. Some programs won't readjust themselves upon re-launching in the new virtual desktop space. Skype is, annoyingly, one of them.

What I see here is the failure of Microsoft to include basic functionality to reposition windows into the current desktop space. It appears multi-monitor users are still not a sizable population for them to take notice of the pain we are encountering switching between actual physical monitors and virtual remote desktops.
