OpenXML Standardized and Sour Grapes

Earlier this week, the OpenXML document format was standardized by the ISO/IEC, with a huge 86% of voting countries favoring the format (news here, among other places).  While this is interesting and a win for anyone using Microsoft Office document formats (who isn't?), it's also a bit disappointing that those who opposed the format's standardization have opted not to accept the decision of the global community.  Instead, they've shifted into sour grapes mode and are attacking the process and everyone involved (at least the ones who didn't agree with their perspective).  Jan van den Beld has a great writeup of the accusations being thrown about by the folks who couldn't enforce their will upon the world through proper channels - you should check it out if you're at all interested in this topic.

Open XML being standard is an april fool's joke.

@na Hardly.  And at any rate, whether an offically recognized standard (which it is now) or not, it would be the de facto standard anyway.  Office uses it.  OpenOffice supports it.  That's most of the market.  Any niche players will have to support it for interoperability, or be left in the cold.

"attacking the process and everyone involved (at least the ones who didn't agree with their perspective"

No, not attacking everybody.  Only the countries involved in the stacking of votes.

Did you ever think of why just one month before the voting started on the first pass, why did 17 - 20 new countries sign for voting yes.  Oh I get it, they were really passionate about OOXML they couldn't resist.  Thats right, you don't see any of these signs of stacking, you must be smoke and mirrors, make believe nothing happened and convince the public that were innocent.

@radical-1 "I must be smoke and mirrors" ?  That doesn't even make any sense, which seriously detracts from the idea that anything you're saying makes sense.  Yes, for a while it was a close contest, with both sides lobbying many different countries to vote in their favor.  Welcome to political process.

Typical MS damage control tactic: when guilty of something, find a major competitor and accuse him of the same.
