Thanks for giving Vine Type a trial run.  If your setup looks like the alternate setup shown in the graphic on this page:

 http://vinetype.com/default.aspx?section=installation

Then I would suspect the settings on the db folder. The error message used to provide the name of the service (I apologize for this oversight) that needs permission, but when we added caching to Ma.gnolia lists, the error is not being caught at the same place and therefore is not helpful.  -- as so demonstrated by your input above.

On IIS6 the service that needs full permissions to the db folder is NETWORK SERVICE.  I believe this is true also for IIS7 (at least it's true on my Win Vista system)
